New Secondary School offers Grades 11 & 12 Science for the First Time.
The Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation in conjunction with the Rotary Club of West Calgary and the Local NGO is currently building "The Zeke O'Connor High School" in the village of Phaplu. The First phase of the new school, which will be completed over the next three years, officially opened at a ceremony held on May 21, 2011. This new facility will be the first High School in the Solu-Khumbu area with Science being taught in grades 11 and 12. When completed the new school will accommodate 150 students, who would not normally have the opportunity to study sciences in the remote area of Nepal. The Foundation is also continuing its very successful Adult Women's Literacy program and in fact is expanding it.
